Apps for sharing your vacation home with family and friends

Updated

This guide is for anyone choosing an app to share a vacation home with family and friends, whether you own it with relatives or it’s yours and you host.

We make KynStay, so we aren’t neutral.

Start here

Do you own it together with family, or is it yours and you host people?

Other apps checked November 6, 2026. Not stated means we looked on its site and app store listing and didn’t find it, not that the app can’t do it.

Already on Airbnb or Lodgify? The Calendar sync column matters most. We also cover KynStay vs Airbnb and KynStay with Lodgify.

You own it together

If you own the cabin together with your siblings, use one of these. Each is built for several people sharing one home, and three of them help you split its costs.

SharedKey

SharedKey calls itself “the online solution for shared vacation property.” It keeps a shared home in one place: a color coded booking calendar for members, house information, a local guide and a notice board, plus a finances section that records expenses and revenue and allocates them between members. Guests you invite get read only access to the house pages and can add photos to the guest book. It has iPhone and Android apps, and has been on the App Store since 2020.

Choose it if several of you own the home and want the calendar, the house details and the costs in one app, at a flat price per home.

Backporch

Backporch is “a simple tool for shared family properties,” built by its founder for his own family and friends. Anyone in the circle can ask for dates, and the family Admin, the “decider,” approves them. Beyond the calendar it keeps projects, supply lists, gear records and house details like lock codes and Wi-Fi, in iPhone and Android apps.

Choose it if your family wants one person to say yes to visits, and one place on your phones for the jobs that keep the house going.

WhoseWeek

WhoseWeek is for friends and families who own a home together and need to divide the year. You assign weeks by live draft, random draw or a repeat of last year, and the draft and draw can be weighted by each owner’s share. Then you trade weeks between you. It also splits expenses and runs in the browser. It’s free during early access, when you may need an invite to join.

Choose it if the hard part is deciding, fairly, which weeks each owner gets.

OurSharedPlace

OurSharedPlace is “shared property made easy.” Owners and family join as admins or members, and stays go through request and approval, with yearly quotas or turns at picking dates. It splits expenses, tracks rental income and suggests settlements. It runs on the web, iPhone, iPad and Android, and has an optional public booking page if you also rent the place out.

Choose it if you own the home together and want turns, quotas and shared costs in one app, or you rent it out a little as well.

CabinPals, a calendar app for families and owners who share a cabin, is another option in this group that we haven’t covered in detail.

It’s yours, and you host people

If the home is yours and you decide who comes to stay, and on what terms, these two are built for that.

Twimo

Twimo is “a better way to share your second home.” Each home gets a private, password protected page you share with friends, family and trusted guests, and you approve each stay. You can set the price each time you share it, so some guests pay and others don’t. It collects payments with no service fees, syncs both ways with Airbnb, and lets members swap homes with other Twimo hosts. It also offers an optional public booking type, with guests screened through Truvi and hosts verified through Stripe Identity.

Choose it if you want a private page for your home, a price you set each time you share it, payments collected for you, and home swaps with other owners.

KynStay

We think hosting people you know is a different job from renting to strangers, and most of KynStay follows from that.

  • You already trust them. So there are no reviews or star ratings, and today no ID checks.
  • You price by relationship, not by market. Put each guest on a tier you name, like Family or Close friends, with its own discount, up to free nights. We never tell you what you could charge.
  • Guests pay you directly, however you already take money. You confirm it arrived, and KynStay keeps the record. We never hold the money, and there are no booking fees.
  • We don’t put your home in front of strangers. There’s no search, no directory and no marketplace. Private by default. Share a public profile only if you want to, and anyone who sees it can only ask you for access.

Two hosts who already share their homes with each other can also trade stays instead of paying.

What KynStay doesn’t do

  • No marketplace means we won’t bring you bookings. For strangers, keep Airbnb or a property manager and sync the calendars.
  • Today KynStay has one host per home and doesn’t split costs. If you run the place together, the apps above fit better.
  • It’s web only. It works in any phone or computer browser, but there’s no iPhone or Android app.
  • Every guest needs an account to ask for dates or book.
  • We’re new. KynStay launched in 2026.

Choose it if you want tiers like Family and Close friends, each with its own price, and guests who pay you directly.

Facts about other apps come from their own sites and app store listings on that date, and may have changed since. Backporch’s price is from the US App Store, which also lists several yearly offers, and OurSharedPlace’s annual plan there is $129. If we’ve got something wrong, email support@kynstay.com and we’ll fix it.
